Toilets: One of our more popular site subjects! There's
quite a lot of general information on motorhome waste disposal on our
Forum from time to time and always on our main information
site at
http://www.motorcaravanning.com/vehicles/waste.htm. There's also
full information on the products themselves plus user manuals, parts
diagrams and troubleshooting advice on the manufacturer's own website at
www.thetford-europe.com (Not thetford.com NB!). On this webpage you'll find replacement
Thetford chemical toilets and Thetford Holding Tanks
(also known as cassettes) for both bench and swivel bowl toilets. You'll find the
latest Porta Potti models too, ours are in white, plus spare tanks for both white and
grey versions. Also we've introduced an environmentally friendly
85% biodegradable 'green' toilet tablet
as a replacement for green fluids like Aquakem Green but especially for
Aquachem & Elsan blue chemicals.
Thetford
Toilet Holding Tanks: Nowadays the majority of European motorhomes
and motorcaravans come already equipped with a Thetford Cassette toilet as
standard. It is a fully self-contained toilet system that is built into
the bathroom of motorhomes, boats, caravans or any type of
recreational vehicle. Some vehicles come complete with a spare cassette
for extended off-site stays and in any case many users like to replace
them fairly frequently for obvious reasons!
All
models have a unique waste holding tank section, located underneath the
toilet. This 'holding tank' or 'cassette' is removed for emptying from outside the vehicle
through a small service hatch. A unique rotating pour-out spout and vent
button ensure splash-free emptying. External access is what it is all
about. The C200 version is illustrated here but we also supply cassettes
for the older C2/3/4 and the new C400 bench toilets too. The cassette’s superbly simple service routine is handled outside
the vehicle while life within goes on undisturbed. Special Thetford
sanitation products ensure an effective operation of the toilet system
and claim to offer an optimum performance.
Four Tank Versions: One version fits the C200 series Swivel Bowl
Toilets and another fits both left and right hand versions of the C2
& C3 & C4 Bench Toilets (C2/3/4), both are
illustrated right and are the most commonly used.
For info the C200 cassette/tank is shorter and fatter at approx 45x25x25
cm overall - including the folded spout. The other types are newer and
both have wheels on the tanks. One fits the new C400 bench toilet as illustrated left - this
tank has wheels
and green trim on the
cassette and comes in LH or RH versions. The fourth type is also in the
newer style with wheels and fits the new C250 swivel toilet. We don't yet have stocks for the new C250 but
can get these to order as spares. For info: Left or right hand access for the bench toilets themselves is taken as if you were sitting on the toilet.
For more information see
www.thetford-europe.com in a new window. All cassettes are currently on a
2-3 working day delivery service
though we often get them out much quicker.
C200
Vent Option: Some vehicles are now fitted with external
holding tank / cassette venting.
These require the use of
the optional vent (9a) which isn't supplied as standard.
It's an easy DIY twist-in fitting but do remember to order one along with
your spare cassette if this is the type that your van takes. If you're not
sure have a look at our sketch left and compare with the grey vent found
near the
yellow turn button. Buy Now >>>
C2 Hand Reversal or Assembly? Many cassettes are now supplied with a
couple of loose parts in the box that you assemble yourself to suit LH
or RH use. If you wish to see the twist on/off assembly or need to
reverse a cassette hand see the
simple reversal instructions
plus a Thetford exploded drawing - click here.
Toilet Chemicals: Traditionally camping toilets of various
kinds have used chemical products like Elsan Blue and AquaKem in the waste
tank. These toilet fluids use formaldehyde as the main active ingredient
but although very effective in use, this is an environmentally damaging
product and is now known to have an adverse effect on health -
particularly when the vapour is confined indoors. It is not now allowed on farm
campsites, nor where septic tanks are used, and not at all in some
European countries. Alternative liquids like Aqua Kem Green,
CaraSept and Top & Tail have been introduced to provide a 'green'
alternative. All work on similar principles by breaking down and
dispersing solid matter under a cloak of strong scent and/or deodorant. Plainly each
product will have its own advantages and while biodegradability is very
important, the over-riding
issue for most people is the scent - and by the way this may change quite markedly between
the freshly opened product and the one dealing with a tank full of waste
material! Not being entirely happy with many of them we've introduced
an alternative to the Thetford market leader with the European Toi-blett ® Outdoor tablets which are safe, easy to use,
environmentally friendly, and we think have one of the more pleasant
scents based on essential oils. So, why not try some for yourself
and write and tell us what you think?!
T-blett
® Outdoor Toilet tablets:Now shipping the new improved dissolvable
sachet version - for easier and cleaner handling: Also well known as Toi-blett ®
Outdoor in Europe. This is an environmentally friendly toilet waste
deodoriser and breakdown tablet for use in cassettes and holding tanks. Supplied in a 16 tab
plastic tub the convenient individually wrapped tablets have
a strong natural fragrant formula and contain no environmentally harmful
products so they are safe, handy and environmentally friendly!
Toi-blett digests waste and toilet paper fast and safely, prevents sticking
of waste and provides a long lasting fresh smell due to the fine essential
oils used. Biodegradability is excellent, greater than 85% according
to the OECD 301 D “closed bottle test”. This is a non-toxic product.
Ideal for use in environmentally sensitive areas.
T-blett Usage: One tablet is used per 10L of waste capacity and
tablets may be added to both waste tanks and dedicated flushing tanks. T-blett
is safe for valves and all materials and for septic tanks and waste water
treatment plant. To Use: Rinse the waste tank thoroughly with water before
use. Use t-blett alone, not in combination with other products, for
optimum performance for up to 5 days or more. Use 1 tablet in the waste
holding tank per 10L waste water capacity. Initially adding about 1L of
fresh water. The tablet dissolves fast with an effervescent action. Options include:
a) Using just one tablet to start with for
economy and add a second if the tank is not emptied quickly and the full
capacity is required. b) Using one tablet in the waste tank and one in the
dedicated flush tank if fitted, this results in a scented blue rinse on
flushing. Our own experience suggests the one tablet route with
frequent emptying is possibly the best overall.
No risk of spillages or staining! Contains NO formaldehyde or other
harmful ingredients. Exact dosage, no waste of product.
Friendly for dump stations and waste treatment plants. Multilingual.
