New: Not ready for chains? - how about Universal Snow Belts?? (Mud too):  You're no longer allowed through the Mont Blanc Tunnel nor onto many European 'mountain routes' without 'chains'. In season this applies whether you can see any snow or not and whether you intend to depart the main highway or not!  The season extends well into late Spring and early Autumn in some areas too.

Although undoubtedly great products, full chain sets are really much more than many of us need just to be legal while on our way somewhere else, so we've introduced these really easy universal and lighter weight motorhome snow belts. Thule Snow Chains - Highly respected brand; chains widely recommended all round the Alps

Highly desirable for all winter motoring and essential on some alpine roads where it's an offence not to carry snow chains when the signs are in use - which can often be from Sept to May, even longer in some places!  Tip: In Austria you must also have 4mm tread on the driven axle in snow/ice - risk of instant fines otherwise!

Both types are easy fit but the XS is the easiest and quickest.  Delivery is normally 2-3 weeks on chains.

Strength & Sizing:  The first task is to choose a chain that's strong enough for use on a motorhome - and not all are! Those cheap car chains are not designed for heavyweight grip and would inevitably break and wreck parts of your vehicle, but hopefully not you!  The second task is to get the right size. Chain sizing is based on tyre size and each chain fits a small range of tyres. Note that all tyre dimensions are important - section, profile, and diameter so note for example 215 / 70 R 15 C.  In case of doubt over the tyre specification it is the tyre size as moulded into the sidewall that always takes precedence. Please note you must consult your vehicle handbook to check for (rare) warnings against using chains.

A number of different tyres can be fitted to otherwise similar vehicles so do check the details actually on your tyre sidewalls before ordering - whatever the handbook says!  Then to purchase just browse the table below to find your tyre size and read off the chain size alongside.
