"We would definitely use motorcaravanning.co.uk again, your customer service is first class" T&AW. Create
More Space: Many motorcaravanners feel the need for swivelling front seats to create
extra living space or even just to ease the process of getting from cab to
living space. So whether looking for these new features or simply upgrading
from an indifferent product these top quality seat swivels are for you!
Choose between the Mapa CTA & Fasp brands - all excellent. Mapa & CTA are boxed sets whereas Fasp are supplied as 'bare' workshop
products. Both types fit 'standard' seats only - please note that ISRI e.g. aren't standard even if original supply! All Fasp, Mapa & CTA are Crash
Tested and CE approved. Fasp have TUV as well. Buy

Newer Models & Airbags! Important Info! Many new vehicles are fitted with ever more sophisticated airbag systems and 2007 models especially are going in for side airbags with elements of the system associated with the seats. Working on a vehicle with airbags presents special hazards and cautions and all the more so if the system is tied in with the seat structure. In these circumstances best advice is to have swivels workshop fitted by professionals with access to all the correct procedures. Latest advice is that it is necessary to pre-disconnect the battery on 2007 models following correct manufacturer procedures, failure to observe these might result in an airbag error warning which can only be dealer reset. On a few models you might have to make cosmetic trim adjustments or even some more serious modifications. Please note that 'franchise' mechanics are not usually prepared nor allowed to do this. We are of course happy to direct our customers to their nearest independent approved workshop if this would be best for you. This service is only available with a purchase. NB: Re Instructions: These are rarities with swivels, FASP have none the others are rudimentary. You are expected to use your local DIY skills to sort out how to do it, this isn't rocket science as they say, but you might have to think about the process. These are mostly handed units for lh or rh use - so do note the general principle of the seat swivelling only 'inwards'. Some confusion arises about handle positions; on the older Fasp style with black handles the handles are mostly on the outside, while on the newer Fasp & Mapa with orange handles these are mostly on the inside and usually curve upwards. Some swivels have different arrangements like lift handles at the front for example. Also see our instructions examples for download as offered below. See MMM January 07 issue for a comprehensive guide to a more complex fit to a T5 with side airbags, heated seats, and lumbar supports. This involved drilling, welding, and trim modification, and was definitely minor engineering rather than just fitting! Transit drivers side has always been problematic too, you might even have to move the handbrake to make this work. This might involve a cut and weld or drop plate lowering process. Please note that marque 'franchise' mechanics are not usually prepared nor even allowed to do this kind of work. A complete handbrake relocation to the footwell 'for improved walkthrough' as per Ford literature might be provided by a Ford agent though. We are happy to direct our swivels customers to their nearest independent approved workshop if this suits. This service is only available with a purchase. We've created a general FASP instruction set using two examples so click here to open the FASP example instruction set as a PDF in a new window. This covers the Ducato/Boxer and VW Transporter in particular but has wider general application. Or click here to see a MAPA example instruction sheet for earlier Ducato / Boxer - again as a PDF in a new window. Do remember that in many cases some minor modifications to trim etc are likely to be required but won't be referred to on the instructions. FASP now discontinued.
These swivels are successfully sold all over Europe but we get a fair
number of "doesn't fit" calls, the vast majority of these are
due to a) trying to fit them upside down and/or back to front.
b) confusing
registration year with the more important date of chassis manufacture -
Swivel Direction: Most modern swivels turn inwards (only) to expand living space and the handle is often now placed under the inside hand, i.e. in the direction of swivel. The handle plate is of course the uppermost one. These swivels are not designed to aid entry & exit from the vehicle! NB: Our descriptions LH & RH refer to the seat & swivel position as seen from the normal driving position, they do not refer to swivelling direction. These descriptions are also independent of 'LHD' and 'RHD' issues. You may find Italian markings, sinistra (SX) left and dextra/dextera (D) right (LH & RH not LHD & RHD!). Size & Weight: These do vary quite considerably from vehicle to vehicle. The increased seat height is typically 32-44mm but the new 2007 Sprinter version has an exceptional 105mm! Weights are typically 8-9Kg for the lighter swivels and around 12Kg for the heavier ones. Swivel Double seats? Not as a standard product. We do know people have done this and have solved both the minor engineering and room-to-swing issues. We can't help with it ourselves though. If attempting such a mod do bear in mind the safety issues and the fact that this would be a non-tested non-approved installation.
CTAs are very similar, boxed with bolts, and great value for money but generally have a slightly different lever and swivel arrangement as above left. They are also universal fit i.e. the swivel direction is not handed so any offset is towards the rear not sideways. They are of course Crash Tested and CE approved. The X250 CTA version is illustrated right, we can supply a pdf type-approval certificate to customers buying these particular units. Neither Mapa nor CTA are 'TUV approved', they've not failed, the testing is just too expensive for most of their market. Master 10? Regrettably not, although designs are in testing there are complications, not least big increases in seat height and also problems with handbrake fouling. Bolts: Bolts are supplied with Mapa, CTA, & Sportscraft but are not supplied as standard with Fasp swivels. In general you will need exactly the same number as are already fitted to your vehicle. These new high tensile or 'T' bolts will secure the swivel to the base while the originals will secure the seat to the swivel. I've asked the manufacturer for a definitive list of bolts etc need but in the meantime we already know that each swivel requires: Ducato/Boxer, 4 standard bolts, 4 counter sunk bolts, 6 washers and 6 nuts and T4, 8 standard bolts, 8 washers, 4 nuts so order a small pack for either of those. At the opposite wend of the scale the Vito takes 16 standard bolts, 16 washers, 16 nuts so order the large pack in this case. When you order the appropriate sized set below we will include all the necessary items for your particular model. Instructions: Workshop products don't come with individual instructions but we've created a general FASP instruction set using two examples so click here to open the FASP example instruction set as a PDF in a new window. This covers the Ducato/Boxer and VW Transporter in particular but has wider general application. Click here to see a MAPA example instruction sheet - as a pdf in a new window. Do remember that in many cases some minor modifications to trim etc are likely to be required. FASP now discontinued. Swivelling: All swivels of whatever brand might need some seat adjustment to enable the turn. Steering wheels, handbrakes and even door grabs & pockets are all known to cause minor obstruction sometimes. In more difficult cases you might have to release the handbrake, open a door, or slide-tilt-rotate-slide to get full function. This is all down to the relative positions and sizes of the cab fittings not down to the swivel!! Double Seats: In general double seats don't swivel. These products aren't tested and approved for that use, neither for the offset load nor behaviour under crash conditions, and often there isn't room for the turn either. ISRI: Please note that although 'ISRI' seats may have been fitted by the converter when the motorhome was supplied new - these are not standard van cab seats and our swivels will not fit!
