Safari-Residence:   Already a best seller the new 'Residence' has a modern clean and good looking design with large clear windows and a very handy front panel that can be rolled up independently. The entire safari-room design and construction was reviewed for this new product and as a result the Safari-Residence is an exceptionally stable system. The fabric is top quality and includes new colours from 2007 & 2009 along with welded seams in the most demanding sections where extra strength is required. NB. a) Residence is only for flat sided vehicles, for curved sided vehicles like Ducato Van you must use a Safari-Room instead. b) Please note the colour variants on Residence sides - all 'made to size' rooms on 6 weeks delivery have colour keyed sides but ex stock rooms & kits made up from UK components have plain sides as per picture. c) Do beware of hybrids* masquerading as Residence with Safari-Residence fronts but Safari-Room sides - although cheaper and looking the part, these just can't offer the improvements in a proper 100% Residence!  Buy Now >>>

Why a kit?  It contains all most people need. Isn't it dearer?  Well yes, but cheaper than buying the various bits later!  What's in it?  Sides with Windows, Front with Window & Door, Vehicle Skirt, Skirt fixing rail, and Fabric Curtains.  Why a skirt?  It stops draughts, rabbits and cats from entering under the 'van, you'll surely not want to experience the after-effects of a visit from a tom-cat!!  Do I have to have the full kit? No you can opt for any combination you want with a price adjustment, we just say kits are the best value! 

Optional extras: include hold-downs, various rafters, groundsheets and carrying bags. Why a hold-down? Hold-down kits stop the room acting like a kite by providing extra holding power combined with elastic shock absorption to stop a blustery breeze from working the securing pegs out of the ground. Highly recommended. Bags? Help protect the room when stowed but do impose a set shape (roughly 120x30x30cm) which doesn't suit everybody or all lockers. Rafters? Plain rafters increase rigidity while curved rafters can help repel rain from the roof. These should be used with care since extended use can distort the fabric particularly in sun. Groundsheet? Plainly not required by everyone but our breathable grass-friendly versions are allowed on most campsites.

Residence Kits:  The popular '5 Series' Safari-Rooms have always been available as complete kits from motorcaravanning and we're pleased to extend the idea to the Safari-residence for the 5000, 6000 and 8000 series. Please see the separate page for the 6000 roof-mount series. Residence caters for awning lengths from 2.6m upwards. Our complete Residence Kits include side & front panels with poles & clips, a blue or grey fabric curtain set to choice, a wind-slip (vehicle skirt), a hold down kit and 3m or more of skirt fixing rail (NB: many of these items are optional extras and not included in headline prices elsewhere!). The two sides each have a window, one with mosquito screen, and the colour matched front panel has both a window and a roll-up door. Rooms of 3.5m upwards have a zippered front window. The front panels can now be rolled up in situ or the window dropped down to produce an open fronted room. Great on hot days and for traders too!  Larger room kits of 5m and upwards come with an extra curtain. Additional skirt rail is supplied for longer awnings but the rail cannot be supplied separately due to shipping problems. Options include additional Rafters to help repel rain.  Some small DIY adjustments to fitting are required on first assembly but not when in daily use - do note that we strongly recommend assembly at home some time before you go away!  For the Autotrail recessed awnings of 3 to 4.5m please remember to order the special sides supplement as below and also please be aware of the need to check front height requirements on newer vehicles.  Buy Now >>>

Mounted Height:  These kits cover the common projections of 2.50m and 2.75m for the 5000 series and 8000 series awnings and the common mounting heights in the range 2.20m to 2.60m as standard. Extra high rooms of 2.60m to 2.90m are offered at extra cost while those up to 3.1m and beyond can be made to order. The mounted heights are measured from the underside of the mounted awning body to level ground at each end of the awning. Do note that these two measurements often differ even when the awning looks level on the vehicle!  The sizing is slightly different to the old Safari-room so Medium is now 2.30m to 2.45m and large is 2.45m to 2.60m while XL fits 2.60m to 2.75m and the XXL fits 2.75 to 2.90m, these larger sizes carry a small extra charge as below. 

Front Height:  Most installations will be fine but in cases where the caravan door is high up and/or close to the underside of the side-mounted awning box it is well worth checking the front height requirements. To do this erect the existing roll-out awning fully and adjust the front legs so that the door opens fully without fouling any mechanism. Then measure the front height from ground to the underside of the front rail. Medium and Large Residence are supplied as standard with a 1.85m nominal front and XL/XXL Residence with a 2.05m nominal front. If your measurements suggest these combinations won't be suitable please contact us to quote you for a special 'made to measure' room with a higher front plus sides with a different roof slope. 

Autotrail:  Motorcaravanning have long offered the Omnistor Safari-room and Safari-Residence to fit Autotrail recessed awnings and routinely put together kits containing the special sides for Autotrail fitting. Regrettably some problems have emerged recently with the new chassis providing extra vehicle height over the rear wheels coupled with restricted room above the door. This means that the front of the room has to be taller to allow the motorhome door to open freely. In turn this means we must supply special extra front height sides - these then necessarily having a non-standard roof slope. At the moment these aren't standard products so we will achieve this by ordering a made-to-size special for you. Made-to-size awnings like this take about 4-6 weeks for delivery. To see if you need this taller version simply erect your existing awning fully and so that it just clears the opening door and then measure the front height from ground to the underside of the front rail. If it is approx 1.85m then it is standard, if it is more, say about 2.0m or so, then it is one of the XL specials. To order a standard room simply order a suitable length standard kit below and add the Autotrail sides item. For an XL version or one to accommodate a high door on the new chassis please contact us for assistance, telling us the front height that you measured. New from 2009 a 2.6m Autotrail room is now available to special order - please allow 5-6 weeks for delivery. Also new from late 2009 Autotrail now use colour 04 - Alaska Grey which replaces the traditional colour 18 Bahamas Turquoise.

New - Groundsheets:  Breathable ground-sheets are now available in a quality neutral grey fabric, usually as illustrated right as the base material. Various lengths from 3.0m to 5.0m all at 2.5m wide will suit the majority of Safari / Residence rooms. These are often despatched separately from other goods. Variations possible at our discretion. 

The Right Fit & Match:  To get exactly the right fit we will check with you the awning model, length, mounting height and colour choice; we will happily help you with all this before or after placing your order. You can find all this info for yourself if you want to, it is on the bar coded label inside the awning casing. The long number there gives us almost everything we need to know about your awning - everything, that is, except the mounted heights and odd front heights all of which you have to measure yourself. Popular colours like Sapphire Blue, Mystic Grey, Blue Sky, Alaska Grey, Curacao Blue and Bahamas will be held in stock in the UK in most lengths up to 5m.
