Using Propane already and need a quick and cheap way into refillables?
Read on!
It isn't difficult to get started and it can be done cheaply and simply if
you are already on an older Propane system. Many of you will have the
the traditional regulator-on-bottle connected to the motorhome with
rubber gas tubing. Often the bottles are swapped over to effect the
change but sometimes a simple 'tap' is used to do this (like the one
illustrated bottom). In this case the cheapest upgrade is to have
just a No-1 Refillable cylinder and to keep a Propane bottle as your
reserve. The best refillable to have is the 11Kg which often fits well
where the Calor 13Kg definitely will not - and even into cupboards
described as "for 6Kg only"! If keeping one of your Calor bottles
as the reserve and space is limited it is better to have one 11Kg
Refillable Cylinder plus a 6Kg Calor bottle rather than the other way
round!! Do swap it for a smaller one if necessary.

So how do you actually do it? It is quite simple really - Just install an
11Kg or 6Kg refillable cylinder along with the essential Remote Filling
Kit and then connect your existing Propane Regulator to the refillable
cylinder with our Adaptor + Gauge (01-4330) as illustrated left.
The reserve Calor bottle stays just as it is. It's easy, cheap and
effective!
The hardest part is siting the remote filler but you only have to
do it once. Actually in the locker door is quite easy and very popular.
Optionally add European filling adaptors for foreign travel and you're
done.

Once installed you check the gauge occasionally and then just pull up at
one of the thousands of Autogas Service Stations throughout the UK and
Europe and top up with Propane - just like putting petrol or diesel in
your car. Dedicated filling points and country specific adaptors, as
illustrated below, make the whole process very straightforward and
workable over most of Europe.
Popular Misconception: You have to save up for a twin
installation. Wrong! As long as you add a gauge you can manage
perfectly well with just one bottle because there is no exchange
involved. You just top up your gas whenever you wish or when the gauge
says you are getting low just as you would your vehicle's diesel tank -
and you don't have two diesel tanks do you?! The case for twin
refillables is simply to carry more gas for longer intervals between
top-ups.
But many small gas lockers designed for 2x6Kg will take
the compact 11Kg Gaslow cylinder so you get nearly as much gas in the
single cylinder anyway! And if you do decide later that you need a
second cylinder of either size the upgrade route is very easy.
Terminology: Most LPG containers are of course 'refillable'
but not by the end user! Gaslow Refillable Cylinders are of course
user-refillable at Autogas pumps and at LPG depots where gas is often
cheaper. We've tried to use some
consistent terminology here to aid understanding. We use the term
Refillable to mean a user-refillable unit like the Gaslow. The
terms Cylinder and Bottle are interchangeable but we've used Cylinder in
relation to the refillables and reserve Bottle for the exchangeable
'Calor' gas bottles found at garages and also in hardware and camping shops
and at caravan sites.
Bottle weights: Net weights do vary
on all gas bottles and so are individually marked on every cylinder. As
a guide the Gaslow refillables are 7-8Kg and 12-15Kg. This is broadly
similar to 'Calor' style bottles.
Delivery Times: We are not yet able to offer an overnight
service on Gaslow products (we'll do our best if you ask though).
Despatch is normally next day for delivery within two days thereafter
but due to the great popularity of the system there are occasional
component shortages. We will try to keep you informed of any
delays but - for the time being - response times are rather slower than
on our other product lines .
