"Cylinders arrived safe and sound. Thank you very much. We will
certainly recommend you to others who may be interested in going down
this road. You have kept us informed throughout which is very important
to customers who order from things seen on the internet rather than
visiting a shop in person" M.D.

New
Cylinders for 2008: New for the 2008 season, Gaslow refillable
cylinders now come with a built-in float level gauge. The built-in float
operates in the lower half of the cylinder for better accuracy at lower
gas levels and enters the red with just 18% remaining - very handy
indeed and also less temperature sensitive than external gauges. The cylinders are
lighter than previously and easier to fit in tight spaces due to
removal of the large collar. Other Changes: Several other minor
changes for the 2008 season but notably the 01-1645 to 1655 ranges no
longer come with high pressure hoses.
Where can I get a refill?? In 1200+ UK Garages and rising -
see
www.drivelpg.co.uk/map/index.php for garages in your chosen area
There are other useful guides too - Flogas - Calor - etc. Also you can
buy an annual map, sometimes even from a local garage, or downloads for your TomTom or Garmin or Navman. None
seem to be really complete though, our local Flogas depot isn't on the
web maps for example. European guides are available too, try this useful
German website for free searches abroad - again it isn't complete but
does offer a great starting point ...

Calor user & not into refillables? Read on - there's plenty
here for you, hoses, adaptors, change-overs, gauges, quality regulators
both wall mounted and on-bottle, even 50mbar systems for German 'vans.

Stainless Steel Hoses - Anti-oiling! An extension of Gaslow's filler
hose technology these are exceptional products - high pressure flexible
hoses without rubber! There has been much discussion recently
about oily plasticiser leaching out of hoses and clogging up gas
regulators leading to costly repairs and unwanted time out of service. One recommendation has been to mount the regulators higher than the
bottles but this is rarely practical in a motorhome. Get rid of the
problem by fitting our revolutionary stainless hoses and also make
doubly sure by fitting hoses long enough to loop below the regulator. No
chance of oily residue problems with our very long-life, no rubber,
hoses! In propane 'POL' easy fit and refillable '21.8 LH' types.
Hose Fitting Information: 21.8LH / W20 is the new standard
fit. 21.8LH is the thread used on Gaslow refillables and on most
German bottles. It is also the same as the old Butane Screw thread as
found on UK 4.5Kg bottles. W20 is the thread used on modern regulators
and change-overs. So - high pressure hoses are usually 21.8LH at one end
and W20 at the other. Some hoses are made with the UK Propane
bullnose 'POL' instead of the 21.8LH but for many situations it is
easiest just to add an adaptor to the end of the hose; e.g. to fit
21.8LH to UK 7Kg & 15Kg Butane bottles simply add a 21mm adaptor part no
01-1670.
To Auto or not? We are great fans of auto-change-over systems
here but are surprised at the number of orders we receive for wholly
manual systems or even systems with no change-over device at all. This
often seems to be a hang over from older habits and ideas about
exchanging empty bottles so we thought it would be a good idea to put
the case for auto.
First
we need to just explain the new thinking about gas when using
refillables:- You can top up with Autogas whenever you like, there is no
need to wait for an empty bottle or even to know about it, you simply do
it whenever is convenient, and when you do both bottles are
topped up simultaneously; the only thing that counts here is how much
gas there is left in total, not which bottle it's in!
Auto costs a little bit more so it's quite important to understand what
you get for your money ... so just what are the main advantages?
The first is one of convenience, an auto system means you'll never have
to go out in the dark or rain at some very inconvenient moment to change
bottles and the cook won't have to panic when the gas goes out either.
The second is a very practical and most important issue - you'll never
come back from a day out walking or on the beach to find your fridge
defrosting because a bottle has run out! This becomes ever more
important as fridge sizes grow and freezers or decent freezer
compartments become more common. To manage an auto system with
confidence you need an indicator to show the bottle in use and also a
gauge to show how much gas remains; Gaslow have thoughtfully provided
both, the auto-head has bottle in use/empty indicators and the new 2008
refillable cylinders all come with built-in float gauges, perfect!
If you aren't a refillable user you can still fit gauges to Calor
systems - the 01-1612 accessory gauges for the auto head on newer
systems and the 01-1610 for on-bottle fitting on earlier systems for
example.
We can't understand why you'd want anything else!
See
also Gaslow's 'Twin' brochure pages (new window)
PS: Retro fit twin accessory gauges are available for heads attached to
older refillables, Calor Propane, etc.

A popular misconception cleared up:
You have to save up for a twin
installation. Wrong! As long as you have a gauge you can manage
perfectly well with just one bottle because there is no exchange
involved. You just top up your gas whenever you wish or when the gauge
says you are getting low. The case for twin
refillables is mostly to carry more gas for longer intervals between
top-ups. Many small gas lockers designed for 2x6Kg will take
the compact 11Kg Gaslow cylinder so you may get nearly as much the
one cylinder anyway! And if you decide later that you need a
second cylinder of either size the upgrade route is easy. Connecting
to the Gaslow refillable cylinder is easy too - the outlet valve you connect to is the same screw type
as used on
the Calor 4.5Kg Butane cylinder (21.8 LH). NB this not the usual UK
Propane fitting. The filling hoses themselves fit to separate dedicated inlets.
See the new 2008 cylinders illustrated left.
New / special / optional / non-catalogue items: For example: In-cupboard
filler head bracket 01-4160 best used with right-angle hose adaptor 01-4210.
Short hose filling kits, 01-4106 & 01-4156, for use with the in-cupboard
bracket. Accessory gauges for auto-change-over, 01-1612, these are as
supplied with the Electra 2000 kit, but can be fitted to any
installation of the auto head. Auto-head and 50mbar regulator, 01-9999/1755-50
for some older imported 'vans. Right angle adaptor for Jumbo, 01-1676,
allows a Stainless Steel hose + Jumbo to be fitted to continuous collar bottles as
found in Spain.
Pre-2004 Systems: Autogas is Propane; actually it can be a mix but it
is always mostly Propane. If you are
already using Propane you can convert your existing regulator with a
Propane Adapter and Gauge (01- 4330) For pre-2004 vans using Butane, you
will need to change your regulator and fit one of the following: Propane
Manual Changeover (01-1650-REFILL), Propane Auto Changeover
(01-1655-REFILL) or Propane Electra 1000 (01-1840-REFILL). If you have a
Propane changeover, simply change the high pressure hoses.
Post-2004 Systems: For new vans
(post-2004) fitted with a 30mbar caravan regulator and using 7Kg or 15Kg Butane cylinders,
simply remove the clip-on adapter. If using Propane, change the high
pressure hose(s) to an 01-6010/20 or the Stainless Steel equivalent: Imports with German
regulator connections will fit directly on to the refillable cylinder
(but new washer is required):
Bottle Weights & Sizes: Net weights vary
on all gas bottles and so are individually marked on every one. As
a guide the Gaslow refillables are about 6.9Kg and 11.5Kg. This is broadly
similar to 'Calor' style bottles. Sizes are 492h x 246dia for the 6Kg
and 580h x 304dia for the 11Kg size, 11.5L & 21L capacity at 80% fill.
We expect the 2008 bottles to be slightly shorter ... now known to be
about 540mm with the valve open.
Delivery Times: We are not yet able to offer an overnight
service on Gaslow products (we'll do our best if you ask though).
Despatch is normally next day for delivery within two days thereafter
but due to the great popularity of the system there are occasional
component shortages. We will try to keep you informed of any
delays but - for the time being - response times are rather slower than
on our other product lines.

bodywork Sikaflex is a truly excellent outdoor adhesive-sealant for
this, it isn't needed if fitting inside the gas cupboard.
