state of charge of most leisure batteries and have designed products to
change all that. These multi-stage units push in the maximum charge
consistent with looking after the battery correctly. They adapt to all
kinds of battery from flooded 'wet' cells to GEL. The maximum charge for
AGMs and GEL is necessarily rather less and presumably forms the basis

Sterling Combined Inverter / Charger: Previously a very high
cost product reserved only for luxury vehicles Sterling have smashed
through the price barrier with these remarkable combined units. Not just
combined but truly integrated
with built in power sharing and priority to 230v mains, so the unit will
fully and automatically manage the power supply between battery and
mains without interruption; you could be watching TV on hook-up, and the
unit would automatically switch over to the battery powered inverter if
the hook-up was disconnected, all without the TV switching off.
Also if the battery charger is already using a lot of power and you then
switch on a high power hair dryer say, the battery charger will reduce
its power consumption to ensure the hair dryer is suitably supplied from
the mains power (shore power). Then after the dryer is switched off the
charger will up its power output again to charge the batteries as fast
as possible. All very clever and all quite invisible to the user. Four

It is extremely easy to install and uses electronic wizardry to step-charge the leisure battery with surplus alternator output via a simple connection to the vehicle battery. It does this remarkably quickly and efficiently and at the same time puts in significantly more charge than any standard in-vehicle system achieves! Peak performance is achieved with ordinary wet or flooded lead acid batteries but the unit has settings to allow AGM & GEL batteries to charge fully, albeit at a slightly lower rate. In a nutshell it charges your extra battery system about 5 times faster than it otherwise would (with a standard system) and puts in about 50% extra useable power as well as increasing the life of the batteries by de-sulphating them. Simple, low-cost chargers will just boost the battery at a constant voltage without taking into account its overall condition. The battery will never be fully charged and, if there should be anything wrong with it, such as a faulty cell, it could be seriously damaged. More expensive chargers such as CTEK or Sterling IUoU models use sophisticated circuitry to vary the charging current according to the battery’s requirements (multi-stage charging), ensuring that it stores the maximum power possible.
