Battery Chargers:
Designed and developed in Sweden by some of the world's leading experts on battery technology, CTEK chargers have become the best-selling chargers of their type in
Scandinavia - where battery performance can be a serious issue! Whether you want to charge batteries in a boat, a
car, a truck or bus, a caravan, motorhome or a motorbike, there's a CTEK
charger available which will ensure that you never suffer from a dead or
poorly-performing battery ever again.
Part of the attraction of CTEK chargers is that they can be used with
any type of lead-acid battery (Wet, MF, VRLA, AGM and GEL (and yes Elecsol too)), in all conditions, for any length of time and in complete
safety. Just connect the mains charger to the battery and walk away. As long
as the battery isn't faulty, CTEK's intelligent, multi-stage charging
regime will ensure that it's fully charged to its maximum capacity. Even
sulphated batteries that won't respond to an ordinary charger can often be
completely revived thanks to the pulse maintenance stage in all CTEK
models. Like all the models offered here, it can be safely left
connected indefinitely to ensure that a battery is in peak condition
when it’s needed. It is completely safe, weatherproof and can even be
left out in the rain. All models have full protection against short
circuits and reverse polarity, are tough, easy to use and they even look
pretty good too!

Sterling 230/12v Chargers: Why Sterling? Fabulous reputation,
excellent products and premium performance at a sensible price. Queen's
Award for Innovation too! "Sterling Power Products’ business plan
is very simple. We design every conceivable performance and safety
feature we can think of into our products; then we check our competitors
just in case we missed something (however, we have never come across
anything close). Having designed all the features we try to manufacture
the products at a cost that will allow us to offer our customers a
product with a high technical specification, but at the same time
keeping the cost down". Sterling have always been horrified at the poor
state of charge of most leisure batteries and have designed products to
change all that. These multi-stage units push in the maximum charge
consistent with looking after the battery correctly. They adapt to all
kinds of battery from flooded 'wet' cells to GEL. The maximum charge for
AGMs and GEL is necessarily rather less and presumably forms the basis
of Charles Sterling's well-known personal dislike of them! Our best
advice for reliable mobile power is add extra batteries and don't scrimp
on the charger!

Sterling Combined Inverter / Charger: Previously a very high
cost product reserved only for luxury vehicles Sterling have smashed
through the price barrier with these remarkable combined units. Not just
combined but truly integrated
with built in power sharing and priority to 230v mains, so the unit will
fully and automatically manage the power supply between battery and
mains without interruption; you could be watching TV on hook-up, and the
unit would automatically switch over to the battery powered inverter if
the hook-up was disconnected, all without the TV switching off.
Also if the battery charger is already using a lot of power and you then
switch on a high power hair dryer say, the battery charger will reduce
its power consumption to ensure the hair dryer is suitably supplied from
the mains power (shore power). Then after the dryer is switched off the
charger will up its power output again to charge the batteries as fast
as possible. All very clever and all quite invisible to the user. Four
step fully automatic IUoU charger. Suitable for all types of lead-acid
battery inc. wet, AGM and GEL up to approx. 600Ah (12V), 300Ah (24V).
Maximum continuous charging current: 50 Amps (12V), 25 Amps (24V). Low
voltage warning and cut-off at 10.5V (12V) / 21V (24V), high voltage
warning and cut-off at 15.5V (12V) / 30V (24V), current overload &
temperature protection. Remote control with 10M cable.

Sterling Battery to Battery Charger: Yes it sounds odd but
this is a remarkable piece of kit. It is extremely easy to install and
uses electronic wizardry to step-charge the leisure battery with surplus
alternator output via a simple connection to the vehicle battery. It does this remarkably quickly and efficiently and
at the same time puts in significantly more charge than any standard
in-vehicle system achieves! Peak performance is achieved with ordinary wet or flooded
lead acid batteries but the unit has settings to allow AGM & GEL
batteries to charge fully, albeit at a slightly lower rate.
In a nutshell it charges your extra battery system about 5 times faster
than it otherwise would (with a standard system) and puts in about 50%
extra useable power as well as increasing the life of the batteries by
de-sulphating them. In principle it falsifies the engine battery voltage
to force the alternator to continue output and uses its own
sophisticated electronics to transfer maximum safe charge to the leisure
battery via a digitally controlled 4-step advanced charger. The unit's
sophistication includes monitoring the main vehicle battery and
alternator to make sure they protected at all times. All in all
perfectly suited to the special 12v power needs of modern recreational
vehicles, motorhomes, and boats.

Simple
installation & wiring - just connect between the two batteries. No
direct connection to the alternator. Main battery maintained correctly. Multiple units can be used. No voltage rise on the engine management
system avoiding alarms etc. Batteries do not have to be close together.
Charges to maximum capacity at up to 50 amps, giving up to 50% more
useable charge and longer battery life. No vehicle warranty issues.
Sterling-Power - Features: •
Installation does not get any easier, simply connect to your starter
batteries and to your domestic battery, job done, makes for easy and low
cost installation. • No direct connections to
the standard engine alternator, or to the outboard (if used on an
outboard), thus on new installations there is no extra wiring for a
split charger system. • Ensures the engine
battery if maintained and well looked after. • Multiple
units can be used, for example if you have a 60 amp alternator and 3
battery banks (engine, domestic and bow thruster) then 2 of these can be
used to run the now thruster and the domestic system. Their internal
programs will adjust their charger patterns to accept the other unit and
ensure only the excess power is used and the primary system is not
placed in jeopardy. • Ensures there is no
voltage rise on the engine management system, to ensure no alarms or
damage to the system be it an outboard, or a car, or a boat.
• No vehicle warranty issues as you are not
connected to the main system
The difference between cheap and expensive battery chargers:
The way a battery is charged can make a huge difference to its
performance and useful life. Simple, low-cost chargers will just boost
the battery at a constant voltage without taking into account its
overall condition. The battery will never be fully charged and, if there
should be anything wrong with it, such as a faulty cell, it could be
seriously damaged. More expensive chargers such as CTEK or Sterling IUoU
models use sophisticated circuitry to vary the charging current
according to the battery’s requirements (multi-stage charging), ensuring that it stores the
maximum power possible. Unlike some cheap units, they can be safely left
connected to the battery indefinitely. Even batteries that are being
constantly charged by an on-board charger can benefit greatly from a
regular session on an IUoU charger.
Sterling are a Queens Award Company. Other Sterling products quoted on request.
It is especially important to have a top notch charger with higher
capacity battery banks and where the charging pattern is poor -
mostly generator top-ups e.g., a lifestyle noted for ruining batteries.
Whatever your charging regime remember the old
adage "Having a bigger piggy bank
only gives you more money if you fill it first"! Our best
advice then for reliable mobile power is first to add extra batteries
but second - don't scrimp on the charger!
Blocking Diodes: 70-120A. At bottom of the page.
Battery Master: More a maintainer rather than a charger, this
clever device will boost your vehicle battery whenever your leisure
battery is up to full charge - especially useful in vehicles where solar
power and/or mains hook-up charges the leisure side but not the vehicle
starter battery. Designed so that it can't accidentally discharge the
starter battery, once wired in, the battery master works completely
automatically to maintain both batteries or battery banks in tip top
condition.
